Restaurants
We haven't had a chance yet to try these all - but our good friends and colleagues at
Garden Ridge B&B in Victoria have, and we trust them completely!
Quick and Reasonable
| Murchies |
Murchies, located about 4 blocks up Government from the boardwalk is a must if you like fine tea or coffee. Murchies is a fixture of old Victoria, much like the Empress or Craigdarroch Castle. Started in 1894, Murchies was at one time THE place to buy tea in Canada. So, where else to visit its store, than in Victoria? Local musicians play outside its doors throughout the day, providing an enjoyable atmosphere for sipping tea.

Barb's on the Wharf |
Grab a harbour ferry and ask to be let off at Barb's--okay, you can drive there, but we never do it that way. You might spend quite awhile here just drooling over the menu. If you wander down the wharf and find a crab fisherman, you can buy a few crabs at about $8 each (huge) and ask him or her to prepare them for cooking. Bring them back to the B&B and we'll steam them up for you and provide three sauces if you'll share.
San Remo Restaurant
Located on the corner of Quadra and Hillside, not right down town. This is a bustling, busy restaurant where you know the food is good. Greek foods are a specialty.
Milestones
Located above and on the wharf, at Government and Wharf Street. You can usually get a table, but call first if you want a table by the window just before dark so you can watch the lights turn on at the Legislative Buildings. Spectacular! Food is spicy unless you ask for otherwise. Tends to be a younger noisy crowd, but everyone can feel as young as they want just to see that view.
Laurel Point
Located on the Belleville Street side of the Inner Harbour, downtown. This upscale cocktail lounge has small meals and snacks if you're eating lightly tonight. If you go at the right time (sevenish) the Coho ferry comes around the corner and seems to fill up the picture windows. Breathtaking.
Romeo's
Located in Broadmead Village and other areas of town. They make a great pizza. You can have it delivered to Garden Ridge B&B for convenience if you are staying with us. They will also deliver various pasta dishes. Sit on the deck and enjoy the best garden in the area.
Green Cuisine
This is a vegetarian's buffet located downtown in beautiful Market Square. Choose from a variety of dishes in any quantity you wish. You pay by weight for the food you choose.
Re-bar Cafe
Vegetarian's paradise with many exciting treats. Found beneath street level in downtown Bastion Square. You can buy the cookbook to take home too!

Great Meals for a Moderate Price
Carden Street
Cafe
Located in the small village of Brentwood near Butchart Gardens. This exclusive restaurant has transformed an old market building into a delightful restaurant. It can be moderate to expensive depending on how much wine you consume, but it will be memorable and friendly. Presentation and taste are excellent. You will come out smiling.

Great and Memorable Meals for more dollars
Paprika Bistro |
Located deep in the heart of old Oak Bay in a tiny space at the Estevan Shopping Village. Absolutely warm and superb service. The bench seats would be the first thing we'd change in this small but always busy restaurant. Great chef! Excellent food.
Deep Cove Chalet
It doesn't get any better than this: food, view, service.
McMorran's
Beach House
This beach front restaurant in Cordova Bay has meals that match the view. There isn't a bad seat here. As Robert says, "you can sit in the window or if you are on the upper section, look out seven windows." You'll forget the view once you start eating, so it really doesn't matter.
Dock 503 |
Here is the ultimate dining experience! This is our absolutely favourite choice for an excellent lunch or dinner! Service is exquisite, the location is overlooking the sailboats at the marina, the air is fresher here! Ask for directions and you'll find it with no trouble at all. FIVE STARS! No, SIX! They deserve it.

Tea Rooms
White Heather Tea Room
Located in the heart of Victoria's "Ol' England" on Oak Bay Avenue. Reasonable priced but very good! You must make reservations in this tiny but, oh, such a spot for having such character with tasty treats. Keep your eyes and ears open--especially for the laugh!
Butchart's Tea Room
Located in the midst of the lush flower beds of Butchart Gardens. Expect to pay about $35 CDN for the whole ceremony and ambiance.
The Empress Hotel Tea
Easy to find with underground parking on the waterfront at the harbour.
Depending on the season, expect to pay about $40-50 per person to sit in this wonderful old hotel tea room. Everyone should do this once, and you might even rub shoulders with a movie star. Or us! |
